AI Literacy for Ages 10+

A PRACTICAL AI COURSE FOR KIDS

AI Explorers gives students ages 10 and up a structured path to understand artificial intelligence, evaluate its answers, use it creatively, and make responsible decisions about when — and when not — to rely on it.

Why It Matters

PROMPT TIPS ARE NOT AI LITERACY

Most of what students pick up about AI is mechanical — how to phrase a request, which tool to open. The harder skills are knowing whether the answer is any good, what the tool cannot do, and when using it costs more than it gives.

Judging what comes back

An AI answer arrives sounding equally confident whether it is right or wrong. Students practice reading output skeptically and checking claims against a real source before relying on them.

Bias and limits

AI systems learn from data, and what they learn from shapes what they produce. Students look at where those limits come from and why a fluent answer is not the same as a complete one.

Privacy and responsible use

What is safe to type into an AI tool, what is not, and why it matters. Students also work through what honest use looks like in schoolwork.

Creating without outsourcing thinking

Students direct AI to make images, video and audio — deciding the idea themselves and using the tool to execute it, rather than handing over the thinking.

Knowing when not to use it

Part of the program is recognising the tasks where reaching for AI costs you the learning, and choosing to work unaided instead.

Painting with words, art direction, mood, and consistent visual style.

1 lesson

AI Video & Audio

Directing AI-generated video and audio scene by scene.

Who It's For

IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOUR STUDENT?

Ages 10 and up

The lessons, examples and quizzes are pitched at students from about age 10 upward, through middle and high school. Younger children can follow along with a parent alongside them.

Self-paced and online

There are no scheduled class times and no live sessions to attend. Students work through the lessons in order, at whatever pace suits them, on any device with a browser.

No coding experience needed

Nothing here assumes prior programming or AI experience. Even the unit on building with AI is designed for students starting from zero.

Works for homeschool schedules

Because it is self-paced with no fixed meeting times, homeschool families can slot it into their own timetable and move as quickly or slowly as they like.

Parents get their own access

Every plan includes full parent access alongside the student. Parents watch the same lessons, take the same quizzes, and can see each student’s progress from the parent dashboard.

Parents weighing this up can read our straight answers about kids and AI. Families near Irvine can also look at the in-person AI classes run with OC Music & Dance.

How It Works

FROM FREE LESSON TO CERTIFICATE

  1. 01

    Watch the free intro lesson

Atlas’s opening lesson plays in full on this page with no account and no payment. It is the clearest way to judge the teaching style before you spend anything.

  2. 02

    Enroll for $25

One payment unlocks the complete program for one student and their parent. No subscription and nothing recurring.

  3. 03

    Work through the lessons

All 16 lessons are taken in order, each with interactive activities. A lesson unlocks once the previous one is finished and its unit quiz is passed.

  4. 04

    Track progress

Each learner has their own account and progress bar, and parents can see how far each student has got from their dashboard.

  5. 05

    Earn the certificate

Finish all 16 lessons and pass the short 5-question quiz at the end of each one to earn a Certificate of Completion. Quizzes can be retaken as many times as needed.

What this lesson covers

Meet Atlas and discover how AI works, where it came from, and why it matters for your future. The big idea students take away: aI learns from examples the way you learn from experience.

By the end of it, a student can:

  • Define AI in your own words
  • Explain how AI learns from examples
  • Name 3 AI tools you already use

Common Questions

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Wondering whether AI is safe for your child, or whether using it counts as cheating? Read our straight answers for parents.

What age is AI Explorers designed for?

The program is written for students ages 10 and up, through middle and high school. The concepts, vocabulary and examples land best from about age 10; younger children can still work through it with a parent alongside them.

Does my child need coding experience?

No. Nothing in the program assumes prior coding or AI experience, including the unit on building software with AI, which is designed for students starting from scratch.

Is the complete first lesson free?

The intro lesson — Atlas’s "Welcome to AI Explorers" — plays in full on this page and on the home page, free and without an account. That is the only lesson available without enrolling. The other 15 lessons, the interactive activities, the lesson quizzes, progress tracking and the certificate all require paid access.

What does the $25 enrollment include?

$25 is a one-time payment covering one student and their parent: all 16 self-paced lessons, the interactive activities, a short quiz after every lesson, progress tracking, parent dashboard access, and a Certificate of Completion for each of you. Households enrolling more than one student can choose the Family Plan instead.

Is this a subscription?

No. Every plan is a single one-time payment. Nothing recurs, there is nothing to cancel, and access to the lessons in your plan does not expire.

How does AI Explorers address cheating and overreliance?

It is built into the curriculum rather than bolted on. One of the eight units covers critical and ethical AI use — academic integrity, the AI Responsibility Code, and recognising the tasks where using AI costs you the learning. Students are taught that the strongest AI users are transparent about when they used it.

How is student privacy handled?

A student account needs only a first name. Read the Children’s Privacy Notice for the full detail of what is collected and why.

Can homeschool students use the program?

Yes. It is entirely self-paced with no scheduled class times, so it can be fitted around a homeschool timetable at whatever pace suits the student. It works the same way for homeschool families as for anyone else.

Does the program include a certificate?

Yes. Completing all 16 lessons and passing the short quiz at the end of each one earns a Certificate of Completion, downloadable straight away. Quizzes can be retaken as many times as needed. Parents earn their own certificate on the same terms.

How can parents monitor progress?

Parents get their own account with full course access plus a parent dashboard showing each enrolled student’s progress through the lessons.
