CHILDREN'S PRIVACY NOTICE
Effective date: May 4, 2026 · Last updated: May 4, 2026
AI Explorers is built for middle- and high-school students. Some of those students are under 13, and we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) plus equivalent state laws (including California's SOPIPA) when handling their information. This notice explains, in plain language, what we collect about a student, what we don't, and how a parent can review, delete, or refuse further collection at any time.
WHAT WE COLLECT FROM A STUDENT
- First name, supplied by the parent at sign-up. Last name is optional.
- A login code we generate for the student.
- Lesson progress, quiz attempts, and approximate time spent.
WHAT WE DO NOT COLLECT
- Date of birth
- Home address, phone number, or email address for the student
- School name or grade level (other than the parent indicating it during purchase)
- Photographs, video, or voice recordings of the student
- Geolocation
- Free-form content uploaded by the student (the Service does not allow this)
WHY WE COLLECT IT
Solely to operate the educational Service: to issue the student's login code, to show their progress on their own dashboard and the parent's dashboard, and to award the Certificate of Completion when they finish all lessons.
HOW IT IS USED AND SHARED
- We do not sell or rent any student information.
- We do not use student information for behavioral advertising, retargeting, or to build advertising profiles.
- We do not allow third parties to use student information for those purposes on our Service.
- Student information is shared only with the service providers that store the data on our behalf (Supabase, Netlify) under contractual confidentiality and use restrictions.
PARENTAL CONSENT
Before any student information is collected, the parent creates and pays for an account using a verifiable, identity-bearing payment method (credit card via Stripe). This satisfies COPPA's requirement for verifiable parental consent. The parent supplies the student's first name and may share or rotate the login code at any time from their My Account page.
PARENTAL RIGHTS
As a parent or legal guardian, at any time you may:
- Review the information we have about your student — visible from your parent dashboard, or available on request.
- Delete all information about your student. Email support@aiexplorers.academy from the address on your account and we will remove the student record within a reasonable time, subject to legal record-keeping requirements.
- Refuse further collection. Contact us, or simply stop using the Service. You may also rotate or deactivate the student's code at any time from your account.
- Reset progress for a student. The student can reset their own progress from their progress page, or you can do it on their behalf by emailing us.
NO TARGETED ADVERTISING
The Service does not display advertising. We do not allow our service providers to use student information to target advertising to the student or parent.
SCHOOLS, DISTRICTS, AND PROGRAM PARTNERS
When AI Explorers is delivered through a school, district, or after-school program partner — for example, OC Music & Dance, which licenses AI Explorers for its in-person summer program — we act as a service provider to that institution. Information collected by AI Explorers in that context is treated as covered “school records” under FERPA-equivalent principles and California SOPIPA, and is used only for the educational purpose authorized by the institution. The partner may also collect additional information directly (e.g., in-person registration forms, attendance, emergency contacts) under its own privacy policy; questions about that collection go to the partner, not to AI Explorers.
